About Scott Kindel
Scott Kindel is the founder of Kindel Consulting, where he partners with behavioral health organizations across the United States to build, strengthen, and grow exceptional treatment programs. With more than 15 years of executive leadership experience in substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health treatment, Scott combines strategic vision with practical, hands-on operational expertise to help organizations navigate the complex challenges of today’s behavioral healthcare landscape.
Throughout his career, Scott has led organizations across the full continuum of care, including medical detoxification, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient services, recovery housing, and integrated behavioral health programs. His experience spans startups, established providers, nonprofit organizations, and multi-site treatment systems, giving him a broad perspective on what it takes to build sustainable, high-performing organizations.
Scott founded Kindel Consulting with a simple philosophy: every behavioral health organization deserves access to experienced executive leadership, regardless of its size or stage of growth. Whether launching a new treatment center, preparing for licensure or accreditation, improving operational performance, navigating regulatory requirements, or developing long-term strategic initiatives, he works alongside leadership teams to develop practical solutions that create lasting results.
His consulting practice includes behavioral health startup development, state licensing, Joint Commission and CARF accreditation readiness, regulatory compliance, operational assessments, quality improvement, executive coaching, payer strategy, financial and operational optimization, staffing and organizational development, policy and procedure development, and growth planning. Scott is known for translating complex regulatory and operational challenges into clear, actionable strategies that strengthen organizations while improving client care.
Above all, Scott believes that operational excellence and exceptional clinical care go hand in hand. Strong systems, engaged leadership, ethical decision-making, and a culture of accountability ultimately create better outcomes for the individuals and families served. Every engagement is built around helping organizations develop these foundations while remaining true to their mission and values.
Scott’s leadership extends beyond consulting. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Jaywalker Foundation, supporting one of the nation’s most respected long-term recovery organizations. Having previously lived and worked in Carbondale, Colorado, he has witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact that recovery-focused communities can have on individuals and families. His continued board service reflects a longstanding commitment to advancing the behavioral health field beyond his day-to-day consulting work.
Clients value Scott’s collaborative approach, practical problem-solving, and ability to quickly identify opportunities for improvement. Rather than delivering generic recommendations, he works as a trusted partner – helping organizations solve complex challenges, strengthen their operations, and position themselves for sustainable long-term success.
When he’s not working with clients, Scott remains actively engaged in the evolving behavioral health landscape through ongoing education, industry collaboration, and advocacy for higher standards of quality, compliance, and ethical care.
